When a Material is Changing its Phase (Liquid ↔ Solid / Liquid ↔ Gas / Solid ↔ Gas) it absorbs or releases the energy in the form of heat.In case of Solid the molecules are strongly bonded to one another. When the heat is added to it, these bonds are broken and the molecules bond with one another with less strength (liquid form).In other words during Phase Change Kinetic Energy remains same in Solid and Liquid states where only the Potential Energy is changing.The energy (in the form of heat) which is available excessively or is wasted can be stored by using a Phase Change Material which changes the phase without changing the Temperature
PCMs are materials that have large amount of heat energy stored in the form of latent heat which is absorbed or released when the materials change state from solid to liquid or vice versa. The release / absorption of heat takes place at almost constant temperature depending upon the type of PCM.
